Privacy policy

MyNextCar.ie ("MyNextCar", "we", "us") operates an online car marketplace serving buyers, private sellers, dealers and garages across Ireland. We are the data controller for personal data processed through this site under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.

• Account data: name, email, password (hashed), and — for dealers — business name, type and county.
• Listing data: vehicle details, photos, asking price, location (county) and contact preferences.
• Enquiry data: messages you send through the site, including via our AI assistant or the contact form.
• Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and approximate location derived from IP.

We do not knowingly collect data from people under 16.

We process your data on the following legal bases:

• Contract: to create your account, publish your listings, and connect buyers with sellers.
• Legitimate interests: to keep the platform safe, prevent fraud, and improve the service.
• Consent: for optional marketing emails or non-essential cookies.
• Legal obligation: to comply with Irish tax, consumer-protection and law-enforcement requirements.

Our chat assistant only ever recommends cars that are live on MyNextCar at the time of your question. To do this it sends your message — together with relevant listing information — to a third-party large-language-model provider operating in the EU/EEA or under EU-approved safeguards. We do not use your chat content to train external models.

• Sellers and dealers you contact through a listing receive the details you choose to share.
• Processors who help us run the service (hosting, email delivery, analytics, AI inference) under strict data-processing agreements.
• Authorities where we are legally required to disclose data.

We never sell your personal data and we do not share it for third-party advertising.

• Account data: while your account is active, then up to 24 months.
• Listings: while live, plus 12 months for fraud-prevention and reporting.
• Contact-form messages: up to 24 months.
• Logs and analytics: typically 13 months.

You have the right to:

• Access a copy of your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Restrict or object to certain processing
• Port your data to another service
• Withdraw consent at any time
• Lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie)

We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

We host data with EU-based providers, encrypt traffic with TLS, hash passwords, and apply row-level access controls in our database. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authority if a personal-data breach occurs that is likely to affect you.
